WEEK 3 LESSON: January 19, 2025

  • G2K: I believe God is powerful!

  • Memory Verse: John 6:69 - “We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

  • Bible Lesson: Jesus In The Wilderness: Matthew 4:1-11; Psalm 36:5-10

WEEKLY CHALLENGE: This week, we taught the kids that we believe God is powerful! When Jesus was being tempted in the wilderness, God helped him. And when we are being tempted or going through a tough time, we can trust in God to help us, too. We can do this because of God’s love. We should always turn to God because God is powerful. To reinforce this lesson, use this activity.

Instructions: For this activity, give each of your children two popsicle sticks that they can design or color to look like logs. Then, glue them on black construction paper. Add scraps of orange, red, and yellow tissue paper above the sticks to make a fire. Provide metallic star stickers to create the night sky, and have them write the Good To Know in metallic marker or white crayon. See a worked example here.

On a chilly camp night, being around the campfire is the best! Fire gives both heat and light, so not only are we warm, we can see in the dark. Let’s use our campfires to help us remember that God, who is more powerful than fire, is always there for us, whether we’re feeling lonely or tempted. I believe God is powerful!

FAMILY TIME: Use these questions to start a conversation with your children about this week’s lesson.

  • Read Psalm 36:7-8. How do you think this relates to the story of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness?

  • What are some stories from the Bible that remind you of God’s power?

  • What are some temptations kids like you might face today? How can you trust God’s power to overcome them?
