Bible Lesson: Jesus Rejected At Nazareth: Luke 4:14-30; Psalm 19:7-14
WEEKLY CHALLENGE: This week, we taught the kids that we believe God’s words are TRUE! God’s words are like a compass. God’s words always point to the truth. So when you are trying to make your way through life and you feel a little lost, turn to God’s words and let them point you back to “true north.” To reinforce this lesson, use this activity.
Instructions: For this week's activity, your kids will need cardstock paper, washable markers, and a leaf. Start by taking your children outside to select a leaf, or you can provide an artificial one. Have them place the leaf on a flat surface with the veins facing up and color it using broad-tip washable markers. Once they finish coloring, instruct them to lightly wipe over the cardstock paper with a damp paper towel, ensuring not to saturate the paper. Next, have them turn the leaf over and press it onto the cardstock, applying gentle pressure to ensure the colors transfer well. Carefully remove the leaf to reveal a colorful print. Once the paper has dried, they can decorate the rest of the page and add the Good to Know. See a worked example here.
When a leaf falls away from the tree or plant, it eventually dries out. Leaves need to stay connected to get all the nutrients they need to survive. Unless, of course, it’s needed to make this beautiful art. Take your leaf art and put it somewhere to remind you to stay connected to God’s words because that’s how we know what is true for our lives. Our relationship with God will be healthy like a green leaf when God’s words guide us. Reading, memorizing, and praying God’s words will not only help us survive the path God has us on but also help us thrive.
